Chinplasty (Chin surgery)

Anaesthesia: general
Hospitalization: 1 day
Duration: 1 hour

Chin surgery or chinplasty is the intervention which aims at correcting a bad position of a chin whether very receding or very high, associated with a rhinoplasty; we will lavish a profiloplasty combining both interventions in harmony.

The intervention :
In the case of a high chin :
The chin is collided with a short incision in the mouth, therefore there is no visible cicatrice. To prevent an osseous grafting, a biocompatible implant is posed. This incision is enclosed by threads resorbing in the 10 days which follow the act.Final result in 3 months
In the case of an undershot jaw :
We grind the osseous protuberance with a small incision hidden under the chin and we extract the excess of fat and adipose fibres. A shaping dressing is placed during 5 to 6 days.Final result in about a month and a half.

After the operation :
- Oedema of cheeks, lips and in certain cases of haematoma which disappear in few days.
- Pains are minim and can be prevented by antalgics

Post- operational advices :
- A warm or cold alimentation, not too much spices nor acid.
- A good buccal hygiene is necessary to safely erase the cicatrices.
- Mouth- baths are prescribed as complements to brushing.
- You absolutely have to stop smoking, drinking alcohol and all irritant until the end of the cicatrisation of the sore.

Risks :
Every surgical intervention has risks which are, sometimes frightful but fortunately exceptional and about which we'll be bound to forewarn you.
- Bleedings : abundant bleedings are extremely rare during this intervention but require in very exceptional cases blood transfusion or blood derivatives
- Inflammation/ Infection: very rarely. In some exceptional cases, the foreign material has to be withdrawn on account of bad tolerance.
